Soil-Net www.soil-net.com This site is blocked at school now :( so you can't access it at ESA, but from home you can check it out. For research on the WHDS, look through the menu on the left for EROSION, ACID RAIN, FERTILIZERS, POLLUTANTS, DEFORESTATION, etc.

This article from the Times of India gives information about the large number of suicides among farmers in India as a result of damaged soil.
